Hoya Blue is holding a vote to determine the slogan for the 2009-2010 student section t-shirt. I believe it is open to all students (you need a net id and password to vote). Here’s a look at the five choices:

Seasons Pass, Hoyas Last — It’s quick and witty, and it sums up the hopes for the season. But there’s something not right about acknowledging the disappointing season last year on the back of a fan section shirt. Fans shouldn’t be reminded of last year’s pain every time they sit behind someone at the Verizon Center.

No Slogan, Just Business — This one is the best. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of the slogans have been great in the past, but it is hard to come up with a witty phrase every year. The real strength of “No Slogan, Just Business” is the idea that it is simply time to go to work and win basketball games. I like that determination.

From Conquest to Conquest, Towards the Ultimate Victory — This slogan is better suited to be chiseled into a stone statue than printed on the back of a basketball shirt. I like where it is going, but it’s a little too long and way too epic.

Victory Now, Georgetown forever — It’s a nice shout out to the Georgetown movie, but again, I think this one is too epic. King Leonidas won’t be on the court when Syracuse comes to town, so the fans can leave the war cries at home.

Envy Our Past, Fear Your Future — This one may be the most clever with wordplay. It both brings up the school’s basketball legacy and takes a shot at opponents: ‘you’re about to get a beat down.’ It’s one flaw is that it opens up fans to the criticism: ‘Envy your past? Oh yea, what about last year?’
