The Good:

-The Crowd: Apparently there is a large contingent of Georgetown fans in Hawaii. While the Jayhawks were eking out a victory, the consistent “Let’s Go Georgetown” chants – they were at least as loud as any at the Verizon Center – kept viewers optimistic.

-The freshman impressed again, in particular Otto Porter who contributed 12 points to the cause.

-If nothing else, the Blue and Gray were persistent. Every time it looked like the Jayhawks were about to turn the game into a rout, the Hoyas came up with a response.

-Jabril Trawick’s dive to recover a loose ball and subsequent time-out to avoid a jump ball was emblematic of the Hoyas’ effort in the second half. Apropos of nothing, I’ve always loved how timeouts can be called at any time in basketball. If you could do that in football, you wouldn’t have plays like this.

The Bad:

-My TV is not in HD. When the score was 6-0 Kansas I was pretty sure it was 8-6 Georgetown. Turns out we didn’t score until the 15-minute mark. Those extra 8 points would have been huge.

-ESPN apparently doesn’t realize that when somebody is a junior, the next season they become a senior. They can’t really be blamed though, since the Midnight Madness scoreboards kept making the same mistake.

-This tournament is sponsored by EA Sports, which is ironic considering they don’t actually make an NCAA game any more. I don’t think many of these fans are running to the store for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2012.

The Ugly:

-Thomas Robinson’s atrocious dunk attempt early on was the only thing that saved Markel Starks from occupying this space as his oft-used spin move at the top of the key turned the ball over more than Philip Rivers.

-The Hoyas allowed three successful alley-oops in the first half alone, doing their best to imitate the opposing team at the end of Will Ferrell’s Semi-Pro. And for those Ferrell fans out there, the Hoyas really could have used “the puke” in the dying seconds for those extra points.

-Andy Reid-esque clock management by the Hoyas near the end as Lubick felt holding the ball at the top of the key with 45 seconds left was a good idea, and then the entire team waited until the 15 second mark to foul while down by two. Brutal.
